AceShowbiz - "Godzilla vs. Kong" has finally found its director. The Hollywood Reporter reports that Adam Wingard ("Death Note", "Blair Witch") has been tapped to helm the movie, which will feature the popular monsters on the same screen.
Legendary Entertainment and Warner Bros. are currently in the middle of building their MonsterVerse, which started with 2014's "Godzilla" and continued with "Kong: Skull Island" earlier this year. "Godzilla vs. Kong" will also be preceded by "Godzilla: King of Monsters", which stars Millie Bobby Brown, Kyle Chandler and Vera Farmiga.
Plot detail is still kept under wraps, but "Godzilla vs. Kong" seemingly will highlight the showdown between the iconic giant lizard and the huge ape. "Pirates of the Caribbean" scribe Terry Rossio will be the lead writer of the movie, working with his team which includes Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne ("Star Trek Beyond"), Lindsey Beer, Cat Vasko, T.S. Nowlin ("The Maze Runner"), Jack Paglen ("Transcendence") and J. Michael Straczynski ("Babylon 5").
Wingard is best known for directing horror movies such as "You're Next", "The Guest", "A Horrible Way to Die" and "Blair Witch". The director recently wrapped "Death Note" live-action movie, which is based on the manga of the same name and starring Nat Wolff.
"Godzilla vs. Kong" is set to be released in the U.S. on May 22, 2020.
