The reality star committed suicide by shooting himself during a trip with his friends on March 25.

AceShowbiz - Clay Adler, the former star of MTV's "Newport Harbor: The Real Orange County", committed suicide on March 25 during a trip to a desert with his friends. They were in the middle of shooting session when suddenly the 27-year-old star turned the gun and shot himself in the head. He died in the hospital on March 26 due to self-inflicted gunshot wound.

TMZ reported that there were no drugs or alcohol in his system although it was known that Clay struggled with mental illness in the past. It was believed that he intentionally killed himself for an unknown reason.

Clay started his career in the entertainment industry on an MTV reality show, "Newport Harbor: The Real Orange County", in 2007. The show was canceled in 2008 after two seasons due to low ratings. After that, Clay starred in a few films and befriended Jennifer Lawrence who had just started her acting career as well.

Frank Adler, Clay's father, told PEOPLE that his son "already saved about four or five lives and there should be more." He explained, "Clay had requested that his organs, he did this years ago when he applied for a driver's license, that his organs be donated to people."

He continued sharing about his son's last days. "We saw him every minute of every day while he was there. They kept him alive a little bit longer so that he could do the donations we're talking about," Frank said. "The hospital did say that he's donated more than they've ever seen because his internals were in phenomenal shape."

MTV expressed their condolences in a statement, "We are saddened by the news of Clay Adler's passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this time."
