"Marvel's New Warriors" gets a straight-to-series order. While previous reports suggested it was adapted by ABC, now it's officially announced that the new show is picked up by Freeform. It's developed as a 10-episode, 30-minute live-action comedy.

Kevin Biegel ("Cougar Town", "Scrubs") is in final talks to write the script and serve as a showrunner. It will feature Doreen Green or Squirrel Girl as "a totally empowering fan girl who is described as tough, optimistic and a natural leader."

No cast is announced, but Anna Kendrick is interested. "My brother sent me a Squirrel Girl comic because he thinks I should [play her]," she told Net-a-Porter. "I don't know what Squirrel Girl does other than be half squirrel, but I could be half squirrel!" "Stranger Things" actress Shannon Purser would love to play the role as well.

"Marvel's New Warriors have always been fan favorites and now particularly with the addition of Squirrel Girl, they are Marvel Television favorites as well," Marvel's head Jeph Loeb told The Hollywood Reporter. "After the amazing experience we've had with Freeform on 'Marvel's Cloak & Dagger' we can't think of a better place for our young heroes."
