Amazon's movie follows a widowed stand-up comedian who raises a two-year-old daughter with surprising gift.

AceShowbiz - Rihanna has been tapped to star in musical drama "Annette". The 29-year-old actress and singer will join "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" actor Adam Driver in the movie. However, there hasn't been any announcement about what role Rihanna will portray.

Previously, Rooney Mara was also set to star in the movie, but Variety reported that Mara left the project due to other commitments. The producers are currently looking for another lead actress.

"Annette" follows a stand-up comedian who becomes a widower after the death of his opera singer wife. He's left to raise his two-year-old daughter who harbors surprising gift.

The movie will be helmed by French director Leos Carax. Los Angeles art-rock duo Sparks is set to pen the movie's screenplay and music. Meanwhile, Amazon studios has acquired the U.S. and Canadian distribution rights for the musical movie.

"Annette" marks Carax's English-language film debut. The French director is known for helming cult favorites and Cannes competition titles such as "Holy Motors", "Mister Lonely" and "Boy Meets Girl".

Rihanna guest stars on A&E's "Bates Motel" as Marion Crane. Rihanna's upcoming movies include "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets" and "Ocean's Eleven" spin-off "Ocean's Eight", in which she will play opposite Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett and Anne Hathaway.

Driver, meanwhile, was last seen in Martin Scorcese's "Silence". Driver is currently starring on HBO's "Girls" final season and will reprise his role as Kylo Ren in "Star Wars: The Last Jedi". The actor will also star in NASCAR heist movie "Logan Lucky" alongside Daniel Craig, Sebastian Stan, Channing Tatum and Katherine Waterston.
