Jared Leto is set to make his feature-length directorial debut. The Academy Award-winning actor will direct upcoming police thriller "77", which is being developed by Paramount Pictures and Wolf Films.

Besides directing the movie, Leto serves as the producer alongside Wolf Films' Dick Wolf and Tony Ganz, with Emma Ludbrook executive producing. It is still unknown whether or not Leto will star in the movie.

"77" is written by David Matthews from original screenplay by "L.A. Confidential" author James Ellroy. Set in 1974's Los Angeles, the movie follows two police officers teaming up to recover kidnapped heiress Patty Hearst as well as investigate the brutal murder of a fellow officer. They uncover not only relentless corruption and crime, but also dark and violent conspiracy.

Leto previously directed music documentary "Artifact" under the pseudonym Bartholomew Cubbins. The documentary won an award at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival. Leto's other documentary projects include "Into the Wild", "Beyond the Horizon" and "Great Wide Open". The 45-year-old actor also directed numerous music videos and commercials.

Back in 2014, Leto won an Oscar for his supporting role in "Dallas Buyers Club". He starred as Joker in David Ayer's "Suicide Squad" (2016). Leto's upcoming films include Denis Villeneuve's "Blade Runner 2049", in which he will star alongside Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling. The sci-fi thriller, which is a sequel to 1982's "Blade Runner" that was directed by Ridley Scott, will hit U.S. theaters on October 6.
