Jamie Lynn Spears' daughter Maddie is gradually recovering after being involved in a scary ATV incident on Sunday, February 5. According to a statement by a Spears family rep, Maddie, who is being treated at a New Orleans hospital, is "awake and talking" after regaining her consciousness.

"With her father, mother and stepfather by her side, Maddie regained consciousness mid-day Tuesday, Feb. 7," the statement, obtained by PEOPLE, reads, "The 8-year-old daughter of entertainer Jamie Lynn Spears was involved in an ATV accident at a family home Sunday in Kentwood, Louisiana. Paramedics resuscitated her and she was airlifted to a local hospital. She is aware of her surroundings and recognizes those family members who have kept a round-the-clock vigil since the accident."

The statement continues, "Doctors were able to remove the ventilator today and she is awake and talking. Maddie continues to receive oxygen and is being monitored closely but it appears that she has not suffered any neurological consequences from the accident."

On Monday, February 6, Britney Spears took to Instagram to ask fans for their prayers for Maddie. "Need all the wishes and prayers for my niece," the "Make Me..." hitmaker wrote alongside a picture of her niece posing with her dog at home.

Jamie and her husband Jamie Watson witnessed Maddie's accident which occurred on a family property in Kentwood, Louisiana shortly before 3 P.M. on Sunday. Maddie was steering her off-road vehicle to avoid running over a drainage ditch near a pond, when she "overcorrected" and caused the vehicle to enter the pond.
