Annette Bening joins the second season of Ryan Murphy's anthology series "American Crime Story". Titled "Katrina", season two will focus on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, one of the five deadliest hurricanes in the history of the United States.
Bening is the first official cast member announced for "Katrina". The Oscar-nominated actress will portray Kathleen Blanco, Louisiana Governor who led the state during and after the devastating 2005 storm.
"Katrina" will mark a reunion between Bening and Murphy, who directed her 2006 movie "Running with Scissors". The project will also be Bening's first regular series role after she starred on HBO telepic "Mrs Harris" in 2005. The actress most recently appeared in "20th Century Women", which earned her a Golden Globe nomination. Her movie credits include "American Beauty", "The Kids Are All Right", "Rules Don't Apply" and "Danny Collins".
Meanwhile, "American Crime Story" season three will be titled "Versace" and follows the 1997 murder of Gianni Versace in Miami. The fourth season will chronicle Bill Clinton's sex scandal and the roles of Monica Lewinsky and her colleague Linda Tripp, who secretly recorded Lewinsky's conversation about her alleged affair with the 42nd POTUS.
The second season of "American Crime Story" will premiere sometime in 2018 on FX while the third season of the anthology series will debut six months later.
