The new electro-pop track is playing over a complicated story about a couple who is escaping to Paris, away from overbearing parents.

AceShowbiz - After teasing the track on various social media over the past few weeks, Grammy-nominated electro DJ duo The Chainsmokers finally released "Paris" on Friday, January 13. Like their previous hits, the electro-pop track is playing over a complicated love story.

The new track talks about a couple who is escaping to Paris, away from overbearing parents. The duo's Andrew Taggart sets off the song by singing, "We were staying in Paris/ To get away from your parents/ And I thought 'Wow, if I could take this in a shot right now/ I don't think that we could work this out.' " He continues singing in the chorus, "If we go down then we go down together/ They'll say you could do anything/ They'll say that I was clever/ If we go down then we go down together."

"Paris" is the first Chainsmokers song without a featured vocalist since 2015's "New York City", which featured uncredited vocals from Victoria Zaro. Though "Paris" also features uncredited backing vocals from Louane Emera, Taggart takes the lead solo.

Though the title is assumed to refer to the French city, "Paris" has much deeper meaning than simply being a city. Prior to releasing the track, The Chainsmokers gave their own definition of the word as they tweeted that "Paris" is "a sentimental yearning for a reality that isn't genuine" and "an irrecoverable condition for fantasy that evokes nostalgia or day dreams."

The duo also debuted a lyric video to accompany their new song. Directed by Rory Kramer, the clip stars bikini-clad Alexis Ren, who is seen frolicking in a Mexican seaside resort.

"Paris" serves as the follow-up to 2016's smash hit "Closer" featuring Halsey, which spent 12 consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The collaborative track receives nominations for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Best Dance Recording at the 2017 Grammy Awards. In addition, the DJ duo is nominated for Best New Artist.
