TV

The actor teases the return of his villainous character as he shares photos of him sporting a flesh colored mask.

AceShowbiz - Following a promo video confirming the return of Jerome in season 3B of "Gotham", Cameron Monaghan teases his character's disfigured face. The actor posted on Twitter a photo of his eyes only with red circles around them.

Another picture posted on Instagram showed the same red circles on what looks like a floppy, flesh colored mask. He also shared an image showing smile-like scars surrounding his lips. The photos, however, were quickly deleted from his social media accounts.

Jerome has been dubbed the proto version of Joker, though it remains to be seen if he will eventually become the Joker. He was killed by Theo Galavan (James Frain) in the season 2 finale, but the show has previously had no problem in bringing back Fish Mooney who died in season 1.

Executive producer Danny Cannon explained after the season 2 finale, "I think the Joker isn't so much a single person as he is an ideology. [He's] an idea that we can all live without fear and we can all be free and we can all not live within the world's restrictions and not live within the rules at all. This guy walks between the lines and I think that's an ideology. It's not a single person. It's a way to live your life, and I think that's what we explore."

Teasing Jerome's return, showrunner John Stephen said at the TCA summer press tour that in season 3, "you have these sort of underground movements that have started to talk about Jerome and what he represented."

"Gotham" will return with the remainder of season 3 in January 2017.
