The four remaining couples perform redemption dances and freestyle dances, before one of them is sent home based on last week's dances.

AceShowbiz - And there's three on "Dancing with the Stars" season 23. After weeks of rehearsals and performances, four pairs were so close to the Mirror Ball trophy, but one of them was eliminated on part 1 of the finale on Monday night, November 21.

Before the results were announced, the four pairs took the stage for a redemption dance and a freestyle dance each. Calvin Johnson and Lindsay Arnold danced a Viennese Waltz in round 1. They first danced the style in week 3. While Len Goodman and Julianne Hough said he improved a lot, he still had some problems with footwork. He earned 35 out of 40 points.

Calvin later redeemed it with his freestyle, which included jazz, jive, a lot of powerful lifts and even treadmills. Len said that not only Calvin was entertaining, but also he could dance. He got 40 points for the second dance.

Jana Kramer and Gleb Savchenko danced a tango for their redemption dance. Bruno Tonioli said it was slicker that the first time Jana danced the style in week 2, when she was injured and couldn't do all the moves, but Julianne didn't feel the spark. Jana earned 35 points.

Returning to the dance floor for the freestyle, Jana and Gleb did a contemporary. Len loved the concept and Carrie Ann Inaba called it stunning, though they noticed a little hiccup. Jana earned 36 points.

Laurie Hernandez and Valentin Chmerkovskiy danced a paso doble in the first round. The judges loved the power, intensity, precision and the shaping. They scored the dance 38.

In the second round, Val used playground as the theme to capture Laurie's youth and it worked, as the judges could feel the joyful vibe. "So much energy you can send a rocket ship to the moon," Bruno gushed. Laurie earned 40 points.

James Hinchcliffe and Sharna Burgess danced a foxtrot at the end of the first round. It was graceful and whimsical, but Carrie Ann pointed out a stumble in the middle. He earned 37 points.

Later, they reenacted his car accident with their freestyle. Carrie called it "passionate, creative, intelligent, artistic," while Len loved the "poignant" choreography. James earned 40 points for his second dance.

Next, it was time for the results based on last week's dances to be announced. Jana Kramer and Gleb Savchenko were eliminated, while the other three pairs will return tomorrow night (November 22) to perform the 24-hour fusion challenge at the finale that airs 9/8c on ABC.
