Zayn Malik and Niall Horan will come face-to-face at the 2016 AMAs this weekend. Rumor has it, the "Pillowtalk" hitmaker fears for an awkward run-in with his former One Direction bandmate so he has been undergoing hypnotherapy.

"Producers have reached out to him to do everything they can to make sure Zayn is comfortable at the show," a source tells HollywoodLife.com, "The fact that Niall will be there only adds to the pressure for Zayn because he wants to be his best in front of his old bandmate."

Zayn's girlfriend Gigi Hadid is hosting the event, so he "has been leaning on" her. "He's been working with a hypnotherapist to get over any anxiety he has and has been leaning on Gigi Hadid, 21, for support," a second source reveals, "Zayn's anxiety issues have been challenging for him heading into this big awards show, but Zayn loves his fans, and more than anything wants to be at the AMAs for them."

The insider adds, "It obviously helps that Gigi will be there hosting the show, but he's a little worried because Gigi will be too busy working to help him if he has any trouble. He's actually really excited to get out there and overcome his fears and he's honored to be up for best new artist. He doesn't want to let his nerves get the best of him."

While Niall is set to perform his debut solo single "This Town" at the 2016 AMAs, Zayn will not make a musical appearance. A rep for the "Like I Would" singer says, "He is not performing."

This year's AMAs will broadcast live on ABC from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, November 20 at 8 P.M.
