A new red band trailer for the Christmas comedy film has arrived, offering a closer look at Franco as a young rich boyfriend of Ned's (Cranston) daughter, and the one Ned forms a rivalry with.

AceShowbiz - A new red band trailer for "Why Him?" has been released online by 20th Century Fox. It offers a closer look at James Franco as Laird Mayhew, a young rich boyfriend of Ned Fleming's (Bryan Cranston) daughter, and the one Ned forms a bitter rivalry with.

"As your little girl grows up, it seems like no guy will ever be good enough for her," Ned says in the trailer, before finally meeting Laird, who is "insanely in love" with his daughter Stephanie (Zoey Deutch). The rest of the over-two-minute video shows Laird "literally having no filter" as he curses all the time and parties hard.

"Dad, on Christmas day, I'm gonna ask Stephie to marry me," he asks for Ned's blessing." While it's clear that the "overprotective but loving dad" says no, the former insists that "in a few days," Ned's gonna call him "son," and he will call Ned "dad."

Directed by "I Love You, Man" helmer John Hamburg, "Why Him?" is set for a December 23 release in U.S. theaters. In the upcoming movie, Ned is an overprotective but loving dad who, along with his family, visits his daughter at Stanford. He meets his biggest nightmare: her well-meaning but socially awkward Silicon Valley billionaire boyfriend, Laird (Franco).

The rivalry develops and Ned's panic level goes through the roof when he finds himself lost in this glamorous high-tech world and learns that Laird is about to pop the question.

The R-rated comedy also stars Megan Mullally as Barb Fleming and Griffin Gluck as Scotty Fleming. Other cast members include Adam Devine, Keegan-Michael Key, Casey Wilson and Andrew Rannells.
