'Cat's troubles were born long before I met her and sadly her tragic end was beyond anyone's control,' the actor says after White's estranged husband filed wrongful death lawsuit against him.

AceShowbiz - Jim Carrey couldn't stay quiet after being accused of contributing to his ex-girlfriend Cathriona White's tragic death. In response to the wrongful death lawsuit filed by the late makeup artist's estranged husband Mark Burton, the comedian denied all the "heartless" allegations made against him in a statement issued on Monday night, September 19.

"What a terrible shame. It would be easy for me to get in a back room with this man's lawyer and make this go away, but there are some moments in life when you have to stand up and defend your honor against the evil in this world," Carrey wrote.

"I will not tolerate this heartless attempt to exploit me or the woman I loved. Cat's troubles were born long before I met her and sadly her tragic end was beyond anyone's control. I really hope that some day soon people will stop trying to profit from this and let her rest in peace," he added.

White died in her home in September 2015 after overdosing on prescription medication. At the time, she had just broken up with the 54-year-old star whom she dated on and off for three years.

In his lawsuit, Burton claimed that Carrey provided White with the prescription drugs that killed her. He believed the actor improperly obtained prescriptions for Ambien and the powerful opioid oxycodone under the alias Arthur King.

He additionally alleged that Carrey attempted to cover up his involvement after her death by sending "a bogus text message on Sept. 27, 2015 to White (who was already deceased) pretending as though he had misplaced the drugs and insinuating White may have taken them from Carrey without his knowledge."

"[Carrey had an] obsession with controlling and manipulating White... [he] had the ability to monitor surveillance cameras on a home White often stayed at and was able, by design, to view the residence remotely to keep track of White's comings and goings," Burton added.
