The 'Total Recall' actress will star in and produce a one-hour drama about a young mother who commits very public act of violence.

AceShowbiz - Jessica Biel has committed to "The Sinner". The "7th Heaven" alum is set to star in and produce a one-hour drama based on Petra Hammesfahr's book of the same name. The project has just received a pilot order on USA Network.

"The Sinner" centers on a young mother (Biel), overcome by an inexplicable fit of rage, who commits a startling and very public act of violence - and, much to her horror, has no idea why. The event launches an inverted and utterly surprising crime thriller the driving force of which is not the who or the what, but the why. A rogue investigator finds himself obsessed with uncovering the woman's buried motive, and together they travel a harrowing path into the depths of her psyche and the violent secrets hidden in her past.

Derek Simonds ("The Astronaut Wives Club") wrote the pilot with Antonio Campos on board to direct. Simonds and Campos will also executive produce with Biel and her producing partner Michelle Purple through their Iron Ocean Films banner.

Should the project get picked up to series, it will mark Biel's return to TV in a regular role after leaving "7th Heaven" in 2002. She departed the family-drama series as a series regular after six seasons, but occasionally made guest appearances in later seasons.

Her recent credits include feature films "Accidental Love" and "Bleeding Heart" as well as a guest stint on "New Girl" and a voice role on Netflix's animated comedy "BoJack Horseman".
