RiRi announces she will serve as the opening act at the MTV VMAs at the Madison Square Garden this Sunday night.

Rihanna announces that she is going to kick off the MTV Video Music Awards this Sunday night, August 28. She teases what to expect from the opening set in a promo directed by Swedist visual artist Panda Gunda. "Kickin Awf the @MTV #VMAs Sun at 9PM!" she said.

RiRi is a special honoree at the VMAs this year. She is set to receive Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award and perform "the biggest tracks of her career." MTV producer Jesse Ignjatovic told Entertainment Weekly, "I can tell you it's going to be one of those holy crap VMA moments ... She's not playing. She's bringing it."
The VMAs is taking at the Madison Square Garden in New York. RiRi gets four nominations including Best Female Video. Beyonce Knowles receives the most nods, 11. Queen Bey is also expected to perform along with Britney Spears, Nicki Minaj and Ariana Grande. Kanye West is also rumored to take a stage.
