Like the movie, the TV version set in a present-day Chicago is inspired by 2002's Hong Kong crime thriller "Infernal Affairs". "Detroit 1-8-7" creator Jason Richman is hired to write the script. It revolves around about a cop who goes undercover in a Latino gang. In the meantime, the gang plants one of their own members in the police department.

The original movie starred Leonardo DiCaprio, Vera Farmiga, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, Mark Wahlberg, Ray Winstone, Martin Sheen and Alec Baldwin. It won four Oscars at the Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director.
