The 'American Sniper' actor is developing a miniseries that highlights the rise of ISIS, based on Joby Warrick's 2016 Pulitzer-winning book.

Bradley Cooper is bringing "The Rise of ISIS" to the small screen. The Academy Award-nominated actor is teaming up with HBO to develop a miniseries based on Joby Warrick's 2016 Pulitzer-winning book "Black Flags: The Rise of ISIS".
The "American Sniper" hunk and Todd Phillips will executive produce the project via their Joint Effort production banner. Gregg Hurwitz ("Orphan X", "Wolverine") will pen the adaptation and also executive produce the miniseries, with Tim Van Patten ("Game of Thrones", "Boardwalk Empire") on board as executive producer and director.
"Black Flags" highlights the rise of ISIS, from its origins in a remote Jordanian prison to its stunning success in Syria. The story tracks the group's unlikely roots and transformation into the world's most feared terrorist organization - as well as the small band of American and international agents tasked with shutting it down.
According to Deadline, after reading the book, Cooper came up with the idea to adapt the book into a miniseries and sought up Warrick. He and Phillips then met with Warrick and pitched the idea for the miniseries.
Cooper recently upset Republicans by appearing at the Democratic National Convention. They were surprised that he showed his support for the Democratic party after portraying Navy SEAL Chris Kyle in Clint Eastwood-directed "American Sniper".
"I was not expecting that," Cooper addressed the uproar when appearing on "The Late Late Show with James Corden". "Republicans were up in arms that I was there watching the president speak." He said that he attended the DNC because he wanted to take his mother to hear President Obama's speech.
"It was just unbelievable," the 41-year-old actor added. "It was probably one of the last times we're gonna hear him speak. I think he was an incredible president."
