The premiere of the new series which centers on a former Marine marksman (Phillippe) is pushed to July 26 following recent attack in Dallas.

AceShowbiz - USA Network is holding off on unleashing its "Shooter" in the wake of recent tragedy in Dallas. The premiere of the new series starring Ryan Phillippe is pushed back a week to July 26 following a sniper attack that left five police officers dead and seven others wounded during a peaceful protest on July 7.

"In light of recent tragic events and out of respect for the victims, their families and our viewers, we have decided to postpone the premiere date for the upcoming USA Network series 'Shooter' to July 26," a network spokesperson said in a statement on Monday, July 11. The drama was initially scheduled to launch on July 19 at 10 P.M. ET.

Airing the show after the Dallas attack could be deemed insensitive since the first episode opens with the sound of a gunshot along with real-life images of historical incidents of gun violence. Last month, TNT decided to postpone the season premiere of "The Last Ship" following a shooting at an Orlando nightclub.

Based on 2007's film "Shooter" starring Mark Wahlberg, the new TV series follows a highly-decorated ex-marine sniper Bob Lee Swagger (Phillippe) who is coaxed back into action after learning of a plot to kill the president, only to find himself involved in a disastrous operation with ties to his past.

"House M.D." alum Omar Epps also stars as Isaac Johnson, an ex-Marine and former commanding officer of Swagger. Now a Secret Service Agent, he solicits Swagger's expertise for a clandestine operation that has disastrous results.
