The 'Grinder' alum is joining the cast of second season of the CBS medical drama.

AceShowbiz - Rob Lowe is joining the cast of "Code Black" season 2 as a series regular. The former "The Grinder" star will make his debut in the upcoming season 2 premiere on September 28 as Col. Ethan Willis.

Rob's character is a doctor in the U.S. military's prestigious Combat Casualty Care research program who has been pulled out of a combat hospital in Afghanistan and embedded at Angels Memorial to teach what the military has learned about combat medicine. His aggressive, rule-breaking style is greeted enthusiastically by Dr. Leanne Rorish (Marcia Gay Harden) but not by all the other doctors.

The series previously added Nafessa Williams, Noah Gray-Cabey and Emily Tyra in recurring roles following the departure of Bonnie Somerville and Raza Jaffrey. They will join original cast Luis Guzman, Melanie Chandra, Harry Ford, Ben Hollingsworth, Jillian Murray, Boris Kodjoe and William Allen Young.

Rob earned a Golden Globe nomination for his role on "The Grinder" as well as an Emmy nomination and two Golden Globe nominations for his role on "The West Wing". His other TV credits included "Parks and Recreation" and "Brothers & Sisters". He has two upcoming movies "How to Be a Latin Lover" and "Monster Trucks" to be released in the U.S. in 2017.
