Jennifer Hudson and some other stars like The Roots, Erykah Badu and Tori Kelly paid tribute to Prince at the 2016 BET Awards, which was held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, June 26. The "Spotlight" singer channeled the late music icon as she was dressed in a white hooded mini dress at the star-studded awards show.
Jennifer wowed the crowd when she hit the stage and belted out a beautiful rendition of "Purple Rain". Not only her powerful voice, but also her all-white outfit, which was inspired by Prince's, stole people's attention. Jennifer wore a white hooded dress with buttons in the front. She teamed her dress with layered gold necklaces, high heels and red lips. Prince wore the same exact hooded blazer at the 2005 People's Choice Awards.
Earlier in the evening, Dave Chappelle shared a few words about Prince. "We miss him dearly," the comedian said. "But tonight, the BET Awards will celebrate the rich legacy of this remarkable genius that we are all so proud of."
The Roots and Erykah paid tribute to Prince by singing his 1987 hit "The Ballad of Dorothy Parker" before Bilal performed "The Beautiful Ones". Later on, Tori joined forces with Stevie Wonder for a duet of "Take Me With U".
Prince, who died from an opioid overdose back in April, previously received the BET Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010. He also won several awards at the annual awards show including Best Male R&B Artist Award in 2006.
