Jimmy Smits joins the pilot of the FOX reboot as a powerful U.S. Senator who is married to Miranda Otto's Rebecca Ingram.

AceShowbiz - "24: Legacy" adds a TV vet to its cast. Jimmy Smits has landed a key role in the FOX reboot, playing John Donovan, a powerful U.S. Senator with higher political aspirations, who is married to Rebecca Ingram (Miranda Otto), the blazing smart former head of CTU.

Should FOX move forward with the project, Smits will be a series regular on the show. He previously starred as Bobby Simone on police drama "NYPD Blue" and Matt Santos on "The West Wing". He also joined the main cast of "Sons of Anarchy" as high-level pimp Nero Padilla.

Corey Hawkins has been tapped to take the lead role, replacing Kiefer Sutherland's Jack Bauer. His character Eric Carter is described as a military hero who returns to the U.S. with troubles that follow him. He was compelled to ask CTU for help in saving his life, and stopping what potentially could be one of the largest-scale terror attacks on American soil.

Also cast for the reboot are Anna Diop as Eric's wife, and Teddy Sears as the new head of CTU.

Manny Coto and Evan Katz will pen the script and serve as executive producers along with Teakwood Lane's Howard Gordon, Imagine TV's Brian Grazer and Kiefer Sutherland. Stephen Hopkins will direct the pilot.
