Zayn Malik performed a brand new song as he made his first appearance on TV as a solo artist. The former One Direction singer gave viewers the first listen to the track called "It's You" when he stopped by "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" on Wednesday night, February 17.

The 23-year-old hottie took the blue-lit stage in a black top and matching pants underneath a long coat of the same color. He crooned the slow-tempo ballad alongside The Roots and a couple of backing vocalists.

Zayn has stated in an interview that "It's You" is about his split from fiancee Perrie Edwards. "It was therapy for me," he said. "I just felt like I needed to put myself out there on that just because it was a form of therapy for me, and it did help get me through some s**t. So if it can help somebody else at that time, then that's cool."

The new song wasn't the only surprise Zayn brought to the late-night talk show. When introducing the performance, host Jimmy Fallon unveiled the cover for Zayn's upcoming debut solo album, "Mind of Mine". The artwork features a childhood picture of the singer with his arms full of tattoos.

The LP is due out on March 25, the same day Zayn left One Direction a year ago. It is led by "Pillowtalk" that peaked at No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100.
