A source claims that J.Lo will prove during her Las Vegas residency that she deserves to be offered the coveted gig next year.

AceShowbiz - The 2016 Super Bowl is still a few weeks away, but rumor about performer for the 2017 event's halftime show has already started swirling online. According to HollywoodLife.com, Jennifer Lopez could be the next A-lister hired to fill the coveted slot.

The site claimed that J.Lo's hoping her Las Vegas residency would help her get picked by the NFL for next year's game. "Jennifer is excited for her Vegas residency to start as she sees it as a major milestone in her career, but she also is using it as a place to show the NFL that she should be the Super Bowl halftime performer next year," a so-called source told the publication.

"Vegas will be her highlight reel! She really wants to do the Super Bowl and she wants to be the first person the NFL asks for Super Bowl 51 and her Vegas show will prove that 100|percent|," the source added.

Reps for J.Lo and the NFL haven't responded to the rumor yet, but a separate source told the news outlet that the football league was open to the idea of having the 46-year-old superstar perform during the Super Bowl.

"The NFL would definitely be interested and would be happy to take on those discussions but not anytime soon," the source said. "They have plenty of time to figure that all out and when plans start materializing for next year then they will cross that path."

J.Lo's residency, dubbed "All I Have", opened on Wednesday night, January 20 at Planet Hollywood's Axis Theater. This year's Super Bowl, which features Coldplay as the halftime show headliner and Beyonce Knowles as their special guest, is airing on February 7 from Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
