M. Night Shyamalan Is Re-Booting 'Tales from the Crypt'

The 45-year-old director is re-booting the Emmy-nominated horror series which ran for seven seasons on HBO in the '90s.

AceShowbiz - M. Night Shyamalan is set to reboot Emmy-nominated horror series "Tales from the Crypt" which ran for seven season on HBO in the '90s. The series reboot will premiere on TNT in fall, leading a new two-hour block of horror television on the network.

Shyamalan said in a statement, "To be part of such a beloved brand like 'Tales From the Crypt', something I grew up watching, and to also have the chance to push the boundaries of genre television as a whole, is an inspiring opportunity that I can't wait to dive into."

TNT evp of original programming Sarah Aubrey added, "This is a new genre for us in our series efforts and a great chance to partner with M. Night Shyamalan, whose blockbuster hit 'The Visit' reminded movie audiences and critics this past summer that he truly is a master of horror."

The upcoming two-hour block of horror television on TNT will feature both short and long form content, with the new "Tales from the Crypt" the centerpiece offering.

Based on the original EC Comics by William Gaines as well as new stories, Shyamalan will serve as exec producer along with his partner at Binding Edge Pictures Ashwin Rajan, Endgame Entertainment's James D. Stern, and Aloris Entertainment's John Santilli and Dan McKinnon.

The original "Tales from the Crypt" premiered on HBO as a half-hour series from 1989 to 1996, featuring appearances by Brad Pitt, Isabella Rossellini, Don Rickles, Dan Aykroyd, Roger Daltrey, Tim Roth and many others. Meanwhile, Michael J. Fox, Kyle MacLachlan, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tom Hanks and others directed episodes of the series.
