Robert Redford is not among the stars who died as the year turns. The actor's publicist Cindi Berger called the report of Redford's death "sick hoax."

"#RIPRobertRedford" was briefly trending on Thursday, December 31 after report surfaced on Twitter that the "Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid" actor had died. The report purportedly came from Britain's Sky News which had reported other celebrity deaths in the past and got them wrong.

Sky News said the 79-year-old died after falling off a golf buggy in the Southern California beach city of Santa Monica. Minutes after the Twitter feed appeared, tributes began pouring in.

Berger was quick to control the situation, saying "This is a sick hoax. I just spoke to him and there is no truth to this whatsoever." She said the actor was home and fine, adding, "Any rumor to Robert Redford's passing is completely not true."

Redford, who doesn't have Twitter or Instagram accounts, has not commented on his death report.
