The first official photo of 'Bourne 5' sees Matt Damon's character frowning as he throws a sharp gaze at a particular point.

AceShowbiz - Although fans have already seen Matt Damon back in action as Jason Bourne on the set of "Bourne 5", they have yet to get the first official look at the character. Their wait is over as EW has released a photo which gives a close-up look at the central character.

Production on the film started back in September. Damon revealed earlier this year that the story would take Bourne "through an austerity-riddled Europe and in a post-Snowden world." In a recent interview with the site, Damon added that it would be twelve years after "The Bourne Ultimatum", which was set in 2004, and "we find him [Bourne] in a dark and tortured place." As for the primary issue in the film, Damon teased, "There's been the financial collapse, the great recession, all these issues of cyberwarfare and civil liberties."

Damon is joined in the cast by the likes of Alicia Vikander, who plays a cyberspecialist, Tommy Lee Jones, who portrays an old-school CIA agent, and Vincent Cassel, who stars as the film's villain that is described as a deadly assassin. Meanwhile, Julia Stiles returns as Nicky from the original series.

Paul Greengrass, who helmed "The Bourne Ultimatum" and "The Bourne Supremacy", is back to direct and co-write the script with Christopher Rouse. Frank Marshall produces the action movie alongside Jeffrey Weiner, Greengrass, Damon, Greg Goodman and Ben Smith, while Rouse and Henry Morrison serve as executive producers. "Bourne 5" is set for a U.S. release on July 29, 2016.
