The 21-minute behind-the-scenes sneak peek also answers questions about Mulder and Scully's relationship status and what draws them to work together again.

AceShowbiz - Less than a month before its premiere, "The X-Files" revival shares a lot of plot details in a new featurette. In the 21-minute behind-the-scenes video, series creator explains how Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully's (Gillian Anderson) relationship has evolved since the beginning of the show, from being platonic to romantic and now they're not together but they still care deeply about each other.

Carter tells TVLine why they decided to split them up. "I thought it was honest," he says. "And I thought it was an interesting thing to explore, as well as a way to put tension into the idea that the X-Files would be more difficult to reopen if they were split up versus together."

Having been separated for some time, they're reunited by the same thing that introduced them to each other in the first place. Joel McHale's Tad O'Malley seeks their expertise in a mysterious case possibly involving alien and conspiracy.

Fans also get a glimpse of Mulder and Scully's now teenage son and a new monster. As they gave up their son for adoption for the sake of his safety, the couple is still having a hard time dealing with "guilt" feeling for making the decision.

"The X-Files" revival will launch with a two-night premiere on Sunday, January 24 and Monday, January 25 on FOX. It will encompass a mixture of stand-alone investigative episodes and those that further the original show's seminal mythology.

Original stars Annabeth Gish (Monica Reyes), Mitch Pileggi (Walter Skinner), William B. Davis (The Smoking Man), Dean Haglund (Langly), Tom Braidwood (Frohike) and Bruce Harwood (Byers) also return for the six-episode event series.
