NBC Grants 'Chicago Med' Five Additional Episodes

The series starring Oliver Platt will have 18 episodes in its first season, including the upcoming three-way crossover with 'Chicago P.D.' and 'Chicago Fire'.

AceShowbiz - Dick Wolf's "Chicago" franchise has proven to be a juggernaut for NBC. The youngest series "Chicago Med" has just been given additional five episode order which brings the first season to a total of 18 episodes.

A spin-off to both "Chicago Fire" and "Chicago P.D.", "Chicago Med" is an emotional thrill ride through the day-to-day chaos of the city's most explosive hospital and the courageous team of doctors who hold it together. The series stars Oliver Platt, Laurie Holden and S. Epatha Merkerson among others.

The show premiered on November 17 to lukewarm welcome from critics but the ratings proved it to be a solid performer. According to Nielsen, the first four telecasts averaged a 2.0 rating, 7 share in adults 18-49 and 8.9 million viewers overall in live plus same-day viewership.

"Chicago Med" airs Tuesdays at 9 P.M., being led by "The Voice". There will be a three-way crossover with "Chicago Fire", "Chicago P.D." in early 2016. NBC had also renewed "Chicago P.D." and "Chicago Fire" for a fourth and fifth season respectively.
