The 47-year-old actress plays her late mom in the upcoming film and appears in a scene set in Joan's 'QVC' show.

AceShowbiz - Melissa Rivers is playing her late mom Joan Rivers in 20th Century Fox drama "Joy". PEOPLE has debuted some stills which reveal the first look at Melissa in the movie. One of the photos features Melissa as Joan holding a puppy, while another one sees her talking to a woman. The 47-year-old actress appears in a scene set at a taping of Joan's "QVC" show.

Melissa revealed that it's director David O. Russell who asked her to be involved in the movie. "It was David's idea," Rivers opened up. "I literally one day got a call saying David O. Russell would like to meet you. Huh? What?"

Melissa admitted that she was overexcited after David offered her the part and she didn't want to miss the great chance. "I thought, 'Seriously when am I ever going to get to work with Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence and David O. Russell?' " she shared. "I was like, 'Okay, I'm in.' " However, according to the actress, portraying her own mother and being transformed to look like the figure was a "bizzare" experience.

She added that she had an unforgettable experience working on the film and she was so happy to collaborate with such supportive crew. "It sounds so Pollyanna to say, but everyone from David on down, could not have been lovelier or more supportive," she expressed her excitement.

Additionally, there is an exclusive clip of the movie which was released by Entertainment Tonight. The clip shows Melissa, Cooper and Lawrence's characters in a dressing room.

The movie is inspired by real-life enterpreneur Joy Mangano. It centers on the title character, who finds a business dynasty and becomes a matriarch in her own right. The movie chronicles the storm Joy faces as she experiences betrayal, treachery and bitter love. Also starring Robert De Niro, Edgar Ramirez, Virginia Madsen, Isabella Rossellini and Diane Ladd, the movie will hit U.S. theaters on December 25.
