"Empire" leaves fans craving for new episodes as it wrapped up the first half of its second season with some major cliffhangers. In the latest episode, [SPOILER ALERT!] Lucious loses his reign as the CEO of Empire and Mimi (Marisa Tomei) wasn't alone preparing this backstabbing plan this whole time. Mimi introduces Camilla (Naomi Campbell) as her wife and that's how Hakeem's former lover is back into the Lyons' lives with vengeance.
Worse than that, Hakeem sides with Camilla. Showrunner Ilene Chaiken tells Variety, "Hakeem just committed the cardinal Lyon family sin, and I would say that he stands alone at the end of this episode."
Meanwhile, Andre's bliss to welcome a child won't last long as his expectant wife Rhonda is pushed down the stairs by a mysteriously hooded figure who breaks into her mansion in the December 2 outing.
It's unclear if Andre losses the baby and if Rhonda is dead, but he looks very emotional in a sneak peek for the fall return. "I would say based on that fall that we should be concerned about Rhonda and her baby," Chaiken coyly says of the fate of Rhonda and her baby.
Rhonda was last seen hanging out with the secretively pregnant and very jealous Anika in her home before the fall. While Anika has a motive, Chaiken says it's "not definitive" who pushed Rhonda. "We never see who actually pushed Rhonda down the stairs, and it's possible that it was someone other than Anika. But Anika having a motive is certainly true," she adds.
When the show returns in March, fans can expect an unlikely alliance between Lucious and Cookie to take back Empire. But a new and bigger problem is coming for Lucious as police are seen storming into his office. There's also a shot of an exploding car.
Chaiken says the theme of the back half of the season is "the Lyon family coming together against an external adversary and regrouping to reclaim their company and their bond."
