'Evil Dead' remake helmer Fede Alvarez and 'Big Bad Wolves' directing duo Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado are said to be the frontrunners to tackle the comic book adaptation.

AceShowbiz - Following the exit of director Guillermo del Toro from "Dark Universe" a.k.a. "Justice League Dark", George Miller was rumored to be offered the job, but he later decided not to be involved as well. With the movie still happening, a new rumor from JoBlo suggests that Warner Bros. is eyeing some possible directors to tackle the project.

"Evil Dead" remake director Fede Alvarez and "Big Bad Wolves" directing duo Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado are said to be the top contenders for the gig. Although the aforementioned filmmakers may not be the only options for the movie, their experiences with horror genre and dark movie may help the supernatural comic book adaptation become more appealing.

Previous reports mentioned that the movie would star Colin Farrell as Constantine, Ron Perlman as Swamp Thing, Ben Mendelsohn as Anton Arcane and Ewan McGregor as Jason Blood/The Demon.

The studio reportedly eyed Monica Bellucci for Madame Xanadu and they are currently looking for a hispanic or black actress for Zatanna and a comedic type for Deadman. Scott Rudin is reportedly on board as producer. Filming is expected to start sometime next year with the hope that the movie will come in 2017.
