Olivia Munn will take the role of an executive producer on The CW's new series. The network teams up with the actress to develop an untitled 1970s female sportscaster drama which has "The Good Wife" scribe Ted Humphrey penning the script.
Set in 1974, the drama revolves around a young journalist who gets hired by an ambitious New York news programming chief as a publicity stunt to be one of the first female on-air sports reporters. She has to learn to navigate gender politics in front of and behind the camera at a time when women were literally not even allowed in the press box.
The project is close to Munn's heart because she started her career in Hollywood as a TV journalist. She had an internship on Fox Sports Net and worked as sideline reporter for college football and women's basketball. She was also the co-host of "Attack of the Show!" for four years and a correspondent for "Daily Show" from 2010 to 2011. Munn played one of the journalists in Aaron Sorkin's HBO drama "The Newsroom".
Stacia Peters will oversee the project, reuniting with Munn after "Newsroom". Munn will not star on the series.
