Together with Larry Pine and Willa Fitzgerald, the two actresses will shake the world of cross-dressing teen Billy Bloom.

AceShowbiz - The cast of Maven Pictures and Flower Films' "Freak Show" is growing larger. Abigail Breslin, Laverne Cox, Larry Pine and Willa Fitzgerald have been announced as part of the film adaptation of James St. James' bestselling young adult LGBT book of the same name.

These four actors will join previously-announced stars such as Alex Lawther, Bette Midler, AnnaSophia Robb, Ian Nelson and Lorraine Toussaint. According to Variety, actress Trudie Styler is directing the film, which has begun filming this week in New York, from the script by Beth Rigazio and PJ Clifton.

The film tells the story of Billy Bloom, a funny, good-hearted, cross-dressing teen who becomes the new student at an ultra-conservative high school. Although accosted with Bible thumpers, the jocks, and the bullies, Billy takes a stand. Determined to be who he is and not bow to peer pressure, he refuses to change his outlandish outfits or behavior. Instead, he decides to run for Homecoming Queen for outcasts and underdogs everywhere.

The book was nominated for the Lambda Literary Award in the LGBT children's/young adult category and the Lambda Literary Award for gay men's debut fiction.

Lawther, who stole attention as young Alan Turing in "The Imitation Game", is taking the main character whose mother is played by Midler. Breslin will play the role of Bloom's rival, Cox is cast as a reporter and Pine is Bloom's father.
