Miss Universe and Miss USA pageants have found a new TV home after getting dropped by NBC earlier this year. FOX will broadcast the 64th annual Miss Universe Pageant from Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas on December 20.
The upcoming three-hour telecast will air live from 7:00 to 10:00 P.M. ET and tape-delayed on the West Coast. FOX also acquires domestic rights to air Miss USA pageant next year. The previous Miss Universe pageant, aired on NBC back in January, averaged a 2.0 rating/6 share in adults 18-49 and 7.7 million viewers.
Fox Broadcasting Company's president of entertainment David Madden said in a statement, "The Miss Universe and Miss USA pageants are iconic television events loved by generations of viewers around the world. We are very excited to partner with IMG and The Miss Universe Organization to infuse a fresh new energy into these perennial broadcast favorites."
IMG's SVP Original Content Michael Antinoro said, "Miss Universe is a unique, global media property and this partnership with FOX marks a new era for The Miss Universe Organization as a whole. As the broadcast leader in innovative and groundbreaking live events, FOX is the perfect partner as we look to implement new and exciting changes to this show and the franchise."
NBC cut ties with Miss Universe pageant and Donald Trump following his controversial remarks about Mexican immigrants during his presidential campaign back in June. Univision also dropped the telecast of Miss USA pageant.
In September, Donald announced he'd bought NBC's stake in the Miss Universe Organization and settled "all lawsuits against them." Later in the same month, he sold the organization to WME/IMG.
