The 'Downtown Abbey' star is attached to play the ex-boyfriend of Hathaway's character in the upcoming action fantasy movie.

AceShowbiz - "Downton Abbey" star Dan Stevens has joined the cast of "Colossal". Variety has learned that the British actor will play a lead character alongside Anne Hathaway and Jason Sudeikis.

The story follows Gloria (Hathaway) who, after losing her job and boyfriend in New York, moves back to her hometown. There, she eventually discovers that she is somehow strangely connected to a giant creature that is terrorizing Seoul and is wreaking havoc in the city. Stevens will play the ex-boyfriend who originally scorns her only to later fight to win her back.

"Colossal" is currently in production in Vancouver. Nacho Vigalondo directs the movie with Nahikari Ipina producing. The drama fantasy film is expected to open in the U.S. in 2016.

Stevens will next be seen in indie feature "Criminal Activities" as well as in Disney's live-action adaptation "Beauty and the Beast (2017)", in which he stars as the titular Beast.

In other news, Ben Kingsley and Josh Hutcherson have signed on for political thriller "Backstabbing for Beginners". Hutcherson will play Michael, a young idealist longing to work for the U.N.'s Oil for Food program, who gets involved in post-war Iraq's chaotic oil market.

Meanwhile, Kingsley will portray Pasha, Michael's boss and a seasoned diplomat. As Michael and Pasha collaborate, the former comes to suspect a conspiracy at the highest level that he needs to expose, risking his own life and his mentor's career.

The movie will start shooting in January 2016. Per Fly ("Waltz for Monica") will direct the film with a script he co-wrote with Daniel Pyne. There is no official release date just yet, but the movie is expected to arrive Statesides in 2106.
