Tom Payne has landed the role of Paul Monroe a.k.a. "Jesus" on "The Walking Dead". The casting was revealed after ET published some of the first on-set pictures of the sixth season which showed what appeared to be an actor dressing like the comic book character.

The "Luck" alum will join the series in a recurring role for the season six with an option for season seven. Paul "Jesus" Monroe was first introduced in issue 91 of the Robert Kirkman comics. Paul is a former member of the who becomes a resident at the Alexandria Safe-Zone.

The character is known for his strong sense of logic and is an adviser to Rick. The character is still alive in the comics and becomes a key member of the group ahead of the war against The Savors and major villain Negan.

While Negan has not been cast yet, "24" alum Xander Berkeley was recently cast as a character believed to be based on Negan.

"The Walking Dead" starring Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan and Chandler Riggs returns Sunday, October 11 at 9:00 P.M. with a 90-minute premiere episode.
