Justin Bieber doesn't know who Shawn Mendes is though they're from the same region in Canada. In a sit-in with 95.5 PLJ radio host Ralphie Aversa on September 15, the "What Do You Mean?" singer looked bewildered when he was asked to give advice for his fellow Canadian singer.

"Who's Shawn Mendes?" Bieber said while inserting a plastic soda cap into his mouth. The host, who was slightly surprised by Bieber's reply, quickly explained, "Oh! He's on Island. He's from southern Ontario. He's 17 years old. He's got a song called 'Stitches' that's, like, doing okay at pop radio."

"Nice. Nice. Good for him," Bieber said while chewing on the cap. "Oh! Oh wow, so you don't even know... I thought for sure you might because he's also from southern Ontario," the host responded. Bieber then said, "No. No, I don't know him. But I will check him out. For sure."

On the other hand, Mendes, whose album "Handwritten debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, doesn't want to be compared to Bieber. In an interview with Toronto Sun in April, the 17-year-old singer said he didn't want to be called "the next Justin Bieber," adding, "[Justin's] stuff and style are totally different. When I play shows it's just me and the guitar, so it's kind of unique. I mean, I really look up to Ed Sheeran. I really look up to Bruno Mars, and yeah, Justin's great too."
