Keith Richards Is Misunderstood Rocker in 'Under the Influence' Trailer
TV

The Rolling Stones guitarist explores his younger days and copes up with growing old as he records his first solo album in 23 years.

AceShowbiz - "Life is a funny thing, you know, nobody wants to get old and they don't want to die young either," Keith Richards said in the first trailer of "Keith Richards: Under the Influence". The rocker becomes the subject of Netflix's new documentary to be released on September 18.

Directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Morgan Neville, the documentary is a culmination of both new and beloved music, rare archival materials and hours of intimate and reflective conversations with Richards as well as documentary of his long and unusual journey to become the legend.

"If there's a Mount Rushmore of rock and roll, Keith's face is surely on it," Neville said about the rocker. "He has always represented the soul of rock music - for all of the light and dark shades that implies. To my relief, Keith Richards turned out to be a real man - full of humor, knowledge and wisdom. That's the real Keith we've worked to capture in our film, and I'm honored to bring it to a global audience via Netflix."

"I know who I am," Richards said in the trailer. "But I realize that people think Keith Richards is smoking a joint, bottle in his hand, cursing the fact that the liquor store's closed." The misunderstood rocker added, "I grew up with American folk music, jazz, blues. Johnny Cash, Muddy Waters: rock and roll's got nothing on those guys."

Richards' first solo album in 23 years, "Crosseyed Heart", will be released on the same day the documentary premieres. He recorded the album in Chicago, Nashville, and New York City where cameras follow him all around.
