Teddy Roosevelt will be the subject of a new limited series developed for Showtime titled "The Life and Times of Teddy Roosevelt". It's a rare move made by the pay cable network that has been focusing on original series and documentaries.
According to THR, the project is still in early stages of development. "American History X" writer David McKenna is writing the script and will serve as executive producer. Ben Silverman and Sean Cannino will be producing for Electus while Jon Rubinstein and Jason Egenberg will be producing under Authentic.
The series is poised as a "brilliant take" on the former U.S. president's life, Variety reports. Presented as a big epic, it also adapts "the real-life heroic story" of Roosevelt for television in a moment in time when there is significant interest in larger-than-life political figures. A particular actor has been in the creative team's mind for a while for the lead role as well as executive producer. However, no one has been officially attached.
Roosevelt is known for having colorful life that would make good TV. He was an Assistant Secretary for the Navy who gave up his position to fight in the Spanish-American War. In September 1901 with the death of president William McKinley, Roosevelt become the youngest President of the United States in history at 42. In 1912, a shooter attempted to kill him but the bullet lodged in his chest after penetrating his steel eyeglass case and passing through a-50 page single-folded copy of the speech he was carrying in his jacket.
