Movie

Elle, Olivia and Lola are three of top contenders who will test for the female lead in the sci-fi flick adapted from a novel with the same name by Ernie Cline.

Steven Spielberg's upcoming movie "Ready Player One" is eying three actresses for its female lead. According to The Wrap, Elle Fanning, Olivia Cooke ("Bates Motel") and Lola Kirke ("Gone Girl", "Mistress America") are three of top contenders who will test for the role Art3mis, the avatar of Samantha Cook within the Oasis, which is the virtual reality universe at the center of the sci-fi story.

Insiders tell the site that it's still early in the casting process. Casting director Ellen Lewis is reportedly narrowing the field for Steven so he can move quickly once he's finished with "Bridge of Spies" and "The BFG". There are two other actresses who are believed to be on the initial shortlist, but their identities remain a mystery.

It's still unknown who are the young actors being eyed to play protagonist Wade Watts, an Oasis user who sets off on a series of challenges to win an invaluable prize. Warner Bros. hasn't commented on the report yet.

Steven signed up to helm "Ready Player One" in March 2016 for a December 15, 2017 release in U.S. theaters.
