Reese Witherspoon to Star in and Produce 'Cold' at Lionsgate

The 'Hot Pursuit' actress is set to star in Lionsgate's supernatural thriller and produce it with Bruna Papandrea through their Pacific Standard Films banner.

AceShowbiz - Reese Witherspoon is attached to star and produce supernatural film "Cold" after Lionsgate acquired the rights to the movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Witherspoon will produce the movie alongside Bruna Papandrea through their Pacific Standard Films banner.

"Cold" is based on a pitch by screenwriter Bill Marsilii, whose credits include "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" and "Captain Nemo". Formed by Witherspoon and Papandrea in 2012, Pacific Standard has been focused on female-driven films since its launch, picking up on a number of best-selling female literary like "Gone Girl" and "Wild" which starred Rosamund Pike and Witherspoon respectively.

The banner has already collaborated with Lionsgate on a big-screen adaptation of best-seller "Luckiest Girl Alive". Other Pacific Standard projects in development are "Ashley's War" at Fox 2000 and "All Is Not Forgotten" at Warner Bros.

Witherspoon's recent movie is "Hot Pursuit", a comedy starring Sofia Vergara ("Chef (2014), "Modern Family"). She also recently signed on to produce and star in "Tink", a live-action film from Walt Disney Pictures that follows Tinker Bell, a fairy character from "Peter Pan".

As for Marsilii, he is currently adapting the sci-fi action comic "Sebastian X" at Voltage, with Gale Anne Hurd producing and Martin Campbell attached to direct. He also co-wrote "Deja Vu", starring Denzel Washington, alongside Terry Rossio.
