'Nightmare on Elm Street' Reboot in the Works at New Line
Movie

The studio is developing a reboot to the 1984 horror film about a serial killer who haunts and kills children in the dream world which can cause their death in the real world.

AceShowbiz - New Line Cinema is in the early stages of developing "A Nightmare on Elm Street (2017)", a reboot to the 1984 American supernatural slasher horror film. The studio has hired David Leslie Johnson ("Orphan") to write the screenplay while there is no producer and director attached to the project just yet.

The original film was created by Wes Craven and starred Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger, a Dream Demon that can enter his victims' dreams and kill them in the dream world which will cause their death in the real world.

Although the original film had been previously rebooted under the title "A Nightmare on Elm Street", the upcoming film has nothing to do with the previous reboot. Released in 2010, the first reboot starred Jackie Earle Haley as Krueger. The film was made for a new generation, but it turned out that the film didn't perform well as it was killed by critics. Despite being a not-so-good film, it grossed $115 million worldwide, giving good profit for the studio.

New Line executives Richard Brener, Walter Hamada and Dave Neustadter will oversee the project on behalf of the studio. Johnson, who wrote "Red Riding Hood" and "Wrath of the Titans", seems to be a perfect choice to write the script as he has experiences working on horror movie such as James Wan's "The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist".
