"Lucy 2", a sequel to the 2014 sci-fi, action movie starring Scarlett Johansson, is in development. According to Indiewire, the presentation for Luc Besson's Paris-based Europa Corp at CineEurope 2015 revealed a number of their upcoming titles including a sequel to "Lucy".

The announcement didn't reveal whether Scarlett would be returning to reprise her role as the titular character. A prospective return by the "Avengers: Age of Ultron" actress would help the sequel boost their marketability and continuity.

Other movies which are also in development according to the announcement include "Colombiana 2", "Twice" directed by Jean-Francois Richet, "The Kawasaki Syndrome", "Sea at War", "DNA", "Sentence" and "Underground" written by Luc.

Luc previously said that a sequel to the sci-fi action flick was "unlikely." "I don't see how we can do one. It's not made for that," he told reporters while promoting "Lucy" in Taiwan back in 2014. "If I find something good enough, maybe I will, but for now I don't even think about it."

"Lucy" follows a woman accidentally caught in a dark deal who turns the tables on her captors and transforms into a merciless warrior evolved beyond human logic. It also starred Morgan Freeman, Analeigh Tipton, Choi Min Sik and Amr Waked. While reviews for the movie weren't great, averaging a 66 percent "Fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it became a global box office success, grossing over $458 million against a budget of $40 million.
