Charlize Theron has reportedly called it quits with her beau Sean Penn after nearly one-and-a-half year together. The pair weren't spotted together in recent weeks. They were last seen together at Cannes Film Festival back in May.

A source tells Us Weekly that Charlize and Sean ended their engagement following their appearance at Cannes back in May, adding that the "Mad Max: Fury Road" actress was the one who initiated the split. Other sources tell PEOPLE that the pair "stayed under separate roofs." Charlize and her adopted son Jackson stayed at their Hollywood residence while Sean remained at his mansion in Malibu, which he had put up for sale but recently pulled off the market.

They allegedly canceled at least one scheduled event together before Charlize went to London to film "The Huntsman".

Both Charlize and Sean's reps haven't commented on the reports yet.

In an interview with ELLE UK's June issue, Charlize gushed over Sean, calling him "the love of my life." The "Dark Places" actress shared, "Putting aside that he's my partner, he's the love of my life; for the first time, I felt that my work was really bleeding into my life and that made it hard. There were moments where I was incredibly unfair to him. And moments where I felt like... he was incredibly unfair to me. But it makes you realize that no matter how complicated it gets, the priority is the relationship."
