Jaden Smith has landed a recurring role on Baz Luhrmann's hip-hop drama "The Get Down". The 16-year-old actor will star as 18-year-old Marcus "Dizzee" Kipling, a psychedelically talented and enigmatic graffiti writer raised in the South Bronx.

The upcoming Netflix series is set in New York City during the 1970s. It follows South Bronx teenagers who have no one to shelter them except each other. The story will be told through their lives and music.

Luhrmann, who co-created and directs the 13-episode drama, says of Smith's casting, "Recently, Jaden has been seeking diverse and challenging roles and this is a testament to his passion to grow in the craft. In the short time he has joined our acting family, he has begun developing his 'The Get Down' skill set, even taking lessons from the legendary graffiti artist Lady Pink of 'Wild Style' fame, as well as steeping himself in the history and culture of the Bronx. We're all very happy with the casting of Jaden in the role of 'Dizzee' Kipling, and with his addition, the Kipling family cast is now complete."

Smith joins Jimmy Smits, Herizen Guardiola, Justice Smith, Shameik Moore, Skylan Brooks, Tremaine Brown, Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen and Mamoudou Athie who have been previously tapped to star on the new series. The show is expected to debut in 2016.

In other casting news, Demi Lovato is set to guest star in the season two finale of El Rey's "From Dusk Till Dawn". While her role is still unknown, she will play alongside boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama on the TV adaptation of Robert Rodriguez's horror movies.

She recently posted a picture of her kissing her beau on the set of the show and captioned it, "After a long night's work..." She additionally took a picture with series creator Rodriguez. "Me and the boss @rodriguez... We worked #fromdusktilldawn... Get it?? Y'all ain't ready...," she wrote alongside the photo.
