"Degrassi" is coming to Netflix with 20 new half-hour episodes after TeenNick canceled the show. The streaming service is set to premiere "Degrassi: The Next Class" in 2016. The new incarnation of the youth-oriented show is also confirmed to air on Family Channel in Canada.
"We are energized and excited to work with Family Channel as we tell stories for the new post-millennial teen cohort known as Generation Z, most of whom weren't even born when Degrassi returned in 2001," says co-creator and executive producer Linda Schuyler in a statement.

The current version, "Degrassi: The Next Generation", will bid goodbye with a two-week final lap after running for 14 seasons. The last 12 episodes will start July 20 with an hour-long special and wrap up with another hour-long finale on July 31. The senior class is preparing for prom and graduation as the school year comes to an end.
The latest installment is expected to see a new class of students dealing with a number of issues "from homophobia, racism, substance abuse and violence to burgeoning sexuality, body issues, heartbreak and the complications of dating in the social media age." The producers say, "The series strives to entertain its post-millennial audience, while always reinforcing its core principle: You are not alone."
