Jimi Hendrix Gets Official Biopic With Paul Greengrass on Board to Direct
Movie

The 'Captain Phillips' helmer is expected to direct the Legendary movie from a screenplay by '8 Mile' scribe Scott Silver.

AceShowbiz - Legendary's long-gestating Jimi Hendrix movie is finally moving forward. The project was previously put on hold due to disapproval from Experience Hendrix LLC. Now the studio reaches an agreement with the estate and secures rights to the musician's biggest hits like "Purple Haze" and "Foxy Lady".

Paul Greengrass ("Captain Phillips", "The Bourne Ultimatum) is attached to serve behind the lens. He has been linked to the biopic since early development when the Hendrix estate was not on board. Scott Silver ("The Fighter", "8 Mile") is tapped to write the script.

The untitled Jimi Hendrix biopic is expected to be the first authorized film that focuses on the late rocker. "12 Years a Slave" scribe John Ridley previously directed an unauthorized one called "Jimi: All Is by My Side" with OutKast's Andre Benjamin or Andre 3000 as the music icon. It didn't include any of Hendrix's signature tunes and instead focused on his early years as an aspiring musician trying to make it on the streets and in the clubs of London, England.

It's unclear who will play the iconic musician in this upcoming official biopic, but Anthony Mackie was once rumored to play the coveted role in the pic.
