Black Metal Biopic 'Lords of Chaos' to Be Directed by Jonas Akerlund
Movie

'Lords of Chaos', a book telling about the Norwegian black metal scene in early 90s, is going to be adapted into a movie.

AceShowbiz - Jonas Akerlund, known for working on music videos for Madonna, Lady GaGa, Paul McCartney and U2, is now preparing to direct a biopic about Black Metal scene. The film based on a book entitled "Lords of Chaos: The Bloody Rise of the Satanic Metal Underground" will start filming this fall.

The biopic will particularly focus on black metal band, Mayhem. To be more specific, the film will mainly put the spotlight on the life of Oystein Aarseth a.k.a. Euronymous.

"Lords of Chaos" follows the story of real-life Norwegian guitarist Euronymous, who as a 17-year-old was determined to escape his traditional upbringing in 1980s Oslo. "He becomes fixated on creating true 'Norwegian Black Metal' music with his band Mayhem, and creates a phenomenon by using shocking stunts to put the band's name on the map. But as the lines between publicity and reality start to blur, acts of arson, violence and a murder shock the nation."

The band itself, Mayhem, is more prominent for its series of crimes instead of its musical acts. Their crimes including the burning of churches and several murders have been notoriously known across the country. Euronymous was also the victim of such murder. However, there has been no information on how far the story in the movie will go after Euronymous' death.

Besides directing, Akerlund will take part to co-write the script with Dennis Magnusson for this movie. Despite his recent works which are not really metal, including Lady GaGa's "Paparazzi" and Paul McCartney's "Lonely Road", the director still has some space for metal. He previously had directed music videos for Metallica, Satyricon, and Candlemass. Moreover, the director was once a member of metal group in the past.
