Director Brett Ratner finally set the record straight on rumors saying that he and Mariah Carey were dating. The filmmaker addressed the romance rumors on Tuesday night, April 21 while attending a premiere of the new HBO documentary "Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck" in Los Angeles.
"We're great friends," Ratner confirmed after being asked about his opinion on the romance rumors. "I'm directing her video. I've been friends with her for 20 years."
He considered the rumors hilarious after learning of it for the first time. "It makes me laugh actually," he said. "It cracks me up. We're great friends. She's awesome and she's amazing."
Ratner has been reported dating the 45-year-old singer since three weeks ago. The reports sparked after the two were spotted walking arm-in-arm with another female friend while shopping at St. Barts. Additionally, Ratner and Carey recently celebrated their birthdays together in Caribean. Earlier this month, the duo was seen spending the Saturday of Easter weekend having dinner together at Cafe Carlyle in New York.
Carey is in the middle of divorcing her husband of six years Nick Cannon. "She is heartbroken," a source close to the diva explained after the split rumor between Carey and Cannon emerged. "She has tried and tried to get him to stay home more, but he always uses work as an excuse. When she points out that, financially, he does not need to be working as much as he does, it pisses him off and pushes him farther away. He hates when people assume he's living off her money."
