A source confirmed to Us Weekly that Stone ended her relationship with Garfield and moved back to Los Angeles, adding Garfield 'has been in a dark place' before their split.

AceShowbiz - Emma Stone may have ended things between her and her boyfriend of three years Andrew Garfield. A source confirmed the break-up in the April 27 issue of Us Weekly, saying that the actor of "The Amazing Spider-Man" had been "in the dark place" long before the two split.

"She ended things and moved back to L.A.," the source told the magazine. "It's finished. It's not just a break." The break-up may be caused by long distance relationship they had been trying to endure while Garfield was in Taiwan to film an upcoming Martin Scorsese movie "Silence" since January.

Separate insider added that another contributing factor to the break-up was the 31-year-old actor's extreme commitment to his role as a 17th-century Jesuit in the movie which also stars Adam Driver and Liam Neeson. "He'd been in a dark place for months, getting into his role," so said the second source. "He wasn't being the best partner."

Stone and Garfield started dating in summer 2011 soon after the production of "The Amazing Spider-Man" finished. The couple was last spotted together on January 7 in New York City. Then, in early April, reports of them taking a break sparked.

"[Garfield]'s thrown himself in the project to the detriment of all else," a source said at that time. "But it's too early to say the relationship is over."

"Emma understood his work anxieties - it's why she originally pulled out of Cabaret last year and only did it this year," the source further explained. "They're both a slave to their schedules. This time last year they were privately discussing marriage."
